Atheism, Mental Health, and God

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen  It seems that every day has been designated as a national or world day for an observance, whether to "raise awareness", celebrate, or something prosaic. October 10 is World Mental Health Day. Fine, I reckon it is a good idea to point out that millions of people have mental health issues. Many are simply things we just learn to deal with, others are debilitating and need counseling as well as medication. Several times, this child has admitted to dealing with depression. Everyone probably has it to some degree on occasion, and other times it is a lifelong struggle due to chemical imbalances in the brain. My hypertension medications contribute to it. People in the Bible were troubled with depression. My photo of the Hudson River, the Rondout Lighthouse is very small on the left side Some of those problems were short-term based on circumstances, others seemed to be lifelong. David wrote some psalms showing his depression over events and his own sins, and E

The Amazing Super Powers of the Mighty Atheist™

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen Years ago, I wrote "atheist" on Twitter, and one cautioned me about using that word because I risked "calling down the thunder". We know that they can be ornery cusses even on their good days, but I was unaware of the intellectual prowess and wisdom of The Mighty Atheist™, dwarfing that of a mere theist. What I had yet to learn, however, is that they also have super powers that are even magical at times. Now I know better. Christians and creationists, I hope you heed this warning! Graphic modified from  Clker clipart As with other super powers, those of The Mighty Atheist™ are difficult to categorize. Not all atheists and evolutionists have the same powers to the same degree, and there is no special school for gifted atheists under a professor so they can develop their abilities. Like logical fallacies, powers often blend and overlap. Let's saddle up and ride over yonder to Deception Pass where the atheists, atheopaths, anti-crea

Snowflakes Burning with Hate

Image
by Cowboy Bob Sorensen It is indeed unfortunate that the political and cultural situations in the United States are not unique to our borders; the affliction is global. Instead, it is a reflection of postmodernism and nihilism, replete with relative truth and despair. After Hillary Clinton lost the election to Donald J. Trump, people were suddenly confronted with the stark possibilities of having to actually work and become productive members of society for eight years; they never considered that Hillary could lose the election. Further, they were willingly blind to the duplicity and outright lies of the Obama administration, carrying this over and expecting more promises of good things from the leftist Democrats. On the spiritual side, we get something like this confused ramblings from someone who has claimed to be an atheist and not an atheist in the same paragraph. He usually identifies himself as an atheist, and has said God is " non-existent". Here is an edited ver

Evolution and Other False Salvation Efforts

Image
At first, I didn't have any ideas for something to write for the 8th anniversary of Stormbringer's Thunder. A spam comment at The Question Evolution Project , some podcasts that I heard while working, and ideas came through my mind like stampeding cattle spooked by lightning. —Cowboy Bob Sorensen Have you ever watched the TV show Restaurant Impossible? Chef Robert Irvine revamps failing restaurants and gives the owners new hope for success. He often has to not only deal with bad management (and frequently, bad food), but attempts to fix relationships as well. Many of the restaurants succeed, but there are quite a few that still fail or get sold . When I watch the show, I get to pondering on how the agreements and plans are akin to New Year's resolutions. The root problem still remains. People get involved in "12 Steps" recovery programs that have a pretense at Christianity, but actually give a false gospel . We have bad feelings, so a shrink gives us medicat

Book Review of "The War on Christmas"

Image
This is a modified version of my review from "Evolutionary Truth by Piltdown Superman" . What's it all about? What's happening, anyway? Christmas has been a part of Western culture for many years, and we did not need to worry about people getting "offended" at the use of the "C word". To be blunt, saying "Happy Holidays" is disingenuous; if there were no Christmas, there would be no "Black Friday" to get retailers back into the black, no gift exchanges, no special family gatherings. We all know what the holiday is! Now, the cashier where you buy your Christmas gifts can, in many cases, get in trouble for saying "Happy Christmas". Businesses have a "Holiday Party" in December and exchange gifts, but they are forbidden to mention Christmas because someone might be offended! (I am very close to start naming names on this at my own employer!) This political correctness stuff is a way to stifle

Three Objects of Ridicule

Image
Some people who want to be considered "intellectual" and say that they live by "reason" love to ridicule the Bible. They are wrong. Three of the main objects of derision are the Genesis flood, Jonah and the great fish, and the resurrection of Jesus. Did you know that these three historical events have something in common? And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat (Genesis 8:4) . And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land (Jonah 2:10) . He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay (Matthew 28:6) . These three verses of Scripture speak of three great events of history, widely separated from each other in time, but each involving a mighty miracle. Each testifies of God’s creative power, as well as His judgment on sin and His grace in salvation. The accounts tell of three remarkable specially prepared—yet temporary—

"Gay Rights" Activists, Atheists, Evolutionists and Other Useful Idiots

Image
Some things that are noteworthy in the efforts of the radical leftists to seize power include: Appeal to emotion. The "values" of the leftists are opposed to the majority of the people, but they play up the emotional aspects of "causes" and people support them without thinking; look how leftists tell groups of people that they are oppressed and cannot succeed in life without leftists in power Labels and redefinition. Leftists use labels to provoke emotion (supporters of traditional marriage are labeled with the nonsensical but emotion-laden word "homophobe"), and redefine words to suit their purposes (such as "tolerance" meaning "Everything is okay except Judeo-Christian stuff"). Lack of reason. Someone who is not caught up in the emotional pot-stirring of the leftists can listen to their prominent figures and realize they do not make sense. I saw a picture of homosexuals with a poster outside of a Chick-fil-A restaurant

Make It YOUR Independence Day!

Image
Here is a great song, and someone did a great job on the fireworks to make the video. Listen to our declaration, Listen to our testament! We've been given a revelation, We are sure of where we stand. So let the banner be unfurled, We've found the light of hope in a dying world! Hear the myth of modern man: "You're the god of your own land". They call you weak, a spineless fool, Say you've given up your right to rule. But I have been to the "Land of Me", And I know I was never free; Freedom came when I gave it all away! That's why I call it independence day! Call it independence day. Let the rockets blaze across the sky, Raise the flag of faith up high, Let the doubters call it what they may: It's independence day! The world can crown another hundred kings, But I believe in a better dream. They may call it slavery, But the biggest chain I knew was me. So let the idols tumble down, The walls of lies crumble to the

Those Puzzling Post-Resurrection Appearances

Image
When we hear about the bodily resurrection of Jesus from the dead, it is often from one passage of Scripture that is read or from watching a classic gospel movie . In reality, there was quite a bit of activity. Many people were coming and going from the tomb. Jesus appeared, angels appeared, people told other people who showed up, Jesus walked on the road to Emmaus with two disciples, appeared to others — like I said, it was a busy place. It was a busy time. Some people assert that the Gospel accounts of the locations, witnesses, and timing of the post-Resurrection appearances of Jesus are contradictory. Scripture exhorts us to be always prepared with answers (1 Peter 3:15) for the hope that is in us. Since these answers and our eternal hope rest on the authenticity of Christ’s Resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:17), we need to sort through some of the “many infallible proofs” (Acts 1:3) Scripture catalogs. As the annual time of our celebration of our Lord’s Resurrection draws nea

Strange Searches: Atheists Are Idiots

Image
April Fool on me, the auto-post failed. This was scheduled at 12.01 AM Eastern Time. "Now you're just being downright nasty! As if telling the truth is bad enough, now you're doing name-calling!" Simmer down, Selma. It's one of the search terms in my site meter that shows how people came to my site. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a set-up and someone is laughing because I used it, but big deal. For me to use a broad, sweeping generalization that "all atheists are idiots" because I thought the ones I met qualify for that classification would be to commit a hasty generalization fallacy . Further, to call someone an idiot is erroneous in the first place. Although the meaning has changed over the years, at one time, it meant that someone had an IQ of about 30, and a mental age of a three-year-old or less. It is no longer used as a designation. Now it is just a way to call someone stupid. But I digress. When looking at groups of people, you g

Still More Changed Lives

Image
One of the strongest evidences that Christianity is true, that God is real and that Jesus is indeed alive is the fact that God changes lives. He changes the hardest of hearts, and he knows what it's like to hurt. God does not care about your religion, your "spirituality", your intellect, your preconceptions, your opinions or anything else. If you put aside your pride and come to him on his terms, you can be forgiven and have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Here are three stories of hard-hearted atheists that came back to Christ. Psychology professor Rich Suplita used to sit in the University of Georgia's Tate Plaza holding a handmade sign that read "Ask an atheist" any time a preacher came to campus to share the gospel. As the faculty sponsor of the school's atheist club, he was adept at explaining how to tackle the issues of life without God. "Essentially what I was trying to do was offer an atheistic apologetic of how you can e
