Tricks and Tips for Information Gathering

Image
First, an apology: Sorry for the confusion on the earlier publication. I was still working on this article under a similar title and had an argument with Blogger's software. It tried to print out the article. When I hit "cancel", it published the incomplete article in mid-sentence. That was annoying, and unfortunately went out into people's feeds. (You know that someone has not read the article when they "Like" something incomplete within seconds of its publication.) This was twelve days ago. This information should prove useful for a variety of people. There is information about the Kindle, but if you do not have one, keep reading. I put things in there for non-Kindle owners as well. Let me lay the foundation with my own situation, and you can substitute your own situation and needs. I need to spend a great deal of time learning things in Christian apologetics and Biblical creationism. So, my need for information gets me into science, theology — and In

Send It to the Kindle

Buon giorno.  A while back, I gave an overview of some of the products available to enhance your Kindle experience 1 . Now I am going to revisit " SENDtoREADER ". At least, the areas that I have explored. From here, I will refer to it as S2R because it sounds officially spiffy as well as being easier to type. They do not know that I am writing this article, so there are no extra grotzits in my bank account for my efforts, capice?  And I apologize in advance, this article will have more graphics than usual. Hopefully, keeping them small (click for larger) will not slow down your browser too much. S2R has free and paid levels. I am using the free level. The paid level lets me get involved with features that I do not need yet, but I suggest that people check out all the options because these people have given us something that has many diverse functions. Installed S2R has a right-click option. This is from my creation science Weblog . The most obvious point

Making Stuff Readable

Image
Buon giorno.  It's time for Uncle Bob to dazzle you with his profound wisdom and intellect. Instead, I want to keep things light but still edjamakate you on something useful. There is a site called " Readability " (who does not know that I exist, let alone that I am writing about them). Either they became ambitious over the past couple of years, or I just plain missed what they were doing. Originally, I knew about their bookmarklet where you could convert a Web page (especially a Weblog page) into something less cluttered and more, well, readable , on your browser. But they do much more than that, even when you click on the bookmarklet. Not only can you adjust the colors to make the thing easier on your eyes, but there are options to "Send to Kindle" as well as "Read Later", among others. Readability will let you sign up for free or paid accounts, and you can keep track of your reading material in one place using the e-mail feature or "Rea

Kindle, I've Got You Covered!

Image
Buon giorno. When I did my write-ups about my Kindle , I mentioned that there were three things that did not come with it: Cover, external light and additional power supply. This is about the cover, which was the most important accessory to me. Covers are not cheap. Amazon makes some covers that include a light, and cost almost as much as the Kindle itself. I did some serious searching, and checking the reviews. Some people give a 1-star review because they are too difficult to please, others give it because they are upset about shipping (that's not cool). But some had genuine issues. I saw reviews where the 1, 2, and 3-star reviews totaled more than the 4 and 5-star reviews, so I skipped those. Buried in the list were a few covers by a company called Timbuk2. Not many reviews, but one gave all the details that I needed, and I went for it. By the way, I am not being paid or getting anything for this review.  The one I got was black/gunmetal/red. I have no idea why

More Kindled Excitement

Image
(Click for larger) Buon giorno. In our last exciting episode , I was going on about how excited I was to have a Kindle Touch, Wi-Fi, 6" E Ink Display e-book reader. I must repeat, however, that I have no experience with any of the other readers on the market. They're probably just fine. Another thing I should repeat is that I am getting nothing, in any way, for endorsing products and services. This is just another public service from Stormbringer Productions, capice? Speaking of public service, I wanted to make my Weblogs available for Kindle. It turns out that I cannot just give them away on there, people will have to pay to subscribe to them (just like with other Weblogs sent to Amazon). Not much, but my content is to remain free. So no, you have to read them in the usual ways. Amazon is somewhat proprietary in that they sell books primarily in their own AMZ format rather than the much more popular ePub format. It also reads PDF to some extent, and also Mobi

The Heat of My Excitement Was Kindled

Buon giorno. And now for something completely different. If you're having half as much fun as I am, then I'm having twice as much fun as you! Yeah, so I stole that joke, it's still funny, innit? The title of this post is a play on words, because I am excited about my new Kindle Touch, Wi-Fi, 6" E Ink Display  reading device. It arrived on Friday, 30 December 2011 anno domini.  Which is really great, I wanted to usher in the New Year with a new gadget and new reading material. By the way, nobody is paying me for this write-up, I'm getting nothing for it. Also, these are my experiences with this particular device . There are others out there and I am sure they are adequate for their tasks. I will not put any of them down because I have had no experience with the others. "Big deal, Uncle Bob! I don't have any kind of e-book reader." Amazon will set you up with free Kindle software for your PC. There are other readers for your PC (i
